How to work with it

Oil the whole edge
The scallops hold oil unevenly. Coat the full curve or the dry sections will catch.

Both grips, weight forward
One hand in each opening. Lean in from above — pulling with your arms costs you the session.
- 03
Follow the waistline
Seat the curve against the flank and draw it along in one continuous movement.
- 04
Drain to close
Finish with a smooth tool toward the nearest nodes. Shaping without draining leaves it stagnant.

Made by hand
We are the workshop, not the middleman
Every KOWÜA tool is cut and finished in our own workshop. We select the timber, cut it, shape it, sand it through progressive grits and finish it by hand. Nothing is bought in and rebranded.
The scalloped edge is the slow part. Each hollow has to flow into the next without a ridge between them, because a ridge is exactly what leaves a line on skin. They are shaped and blended by hand.
Buying direct means you get the price of the factory, custom laser engraving with your clinic's name, and someone who can actually change the tool if you need a different profile.
Care
Cleaning and sanitising
Never
Do not autoclave, do not soak, do not put it in a dishwasher and do not leave it submerged in disinfectant. Wood is porous — immersion swells the fibre, raises the grain and will crack the piece. A flat board warps first.
- After each clientWipe the scallops and both grip openings. Oil collects in the hollows.
- Disinfect70% alcohol on the surface, then let it air-dry completely.
- StoreFlat and dry, never leaning. Away from direct heat and sun.
If the edge ever feels rough, a light pass with fine sandpaper along the grain restores it. That is the advantage of an unvarnished finish: it can be renewed, and there is no coating to chip into a client's skin.

Questions we get
How do I know it is the right size?
390 mm long by 190 mm wide, with two grip openings of 100 mm. It is a two-handed board, sized to span the flank rather than to fit in one palm.
Why the curve?
A straight board has to be worked in short strokes around the waist, and every restart risks a line. The curve is cut to the flank so one continuous pass does the whole side.
Is it too much pressure?
It can be. Two-handed pull generates more force than a handheld tool, and it is easy to overshoot. Start lighter than you think you need.
Can I use it on post-surgical clients?
Yes, once your protocol and the surgeon's clearance allow mechanical work. Given the force it can produce, it belongs later in the recovery timeline — never on fresh incisions.
Can I get my clinic's name on it?
