About Us

Where the forest meets the body

“Every Kowua tool is born in two hands: those of the forest, and those of the craftsman.”

Kowua was born from a simple question: why has modern aesthetics turned its back on the techniques that healed the body for centuries? Wood therapy, cupping, candle therapy, and rituals built around essential oils are not trends — they are ancestral practices that lived in the Americas, Asia, and Africa long before “spa” was a word. What was missing was a brand that could make them professional, beautiful, safe, and truly artisanal.

That brand is Kowua. For more than a decade — over ten years — we have been building that answer, tool by tool, student by student, market by market.

Where our name comes from

Kowua takes its name from Cogua, a municipality in the Cundinamarca highlands of Colombia. The word “Cogua” comes from the Muisca language and translates as “support of the mountain” — a name that captures exactly what we do: tools that support and shape the human body. Part of the wood we work with comes from the forests of this region of Cundinamarca, harvested with respect for the territory and under sustainable practices. The rest of each piece — the carving, the sanding, the assembly — is crafted in Santander, Colombia, where our team of artisans transforms that wood into precision instruments for the human body.

Every Wood Pinda, every contouring roller, every amethyst set that leaves our workshop carries that dual heritage: the Colombian forest and the Santander hand. This is not marketing — it is our operational reality.

Who we are

Andres Betancourt, Founder and CEO, is the creative and technical heart of the brand: he leads tool design, ritual curation, and Kowua’s global vision. Diana Villamil, a certified cosmetologist and professional esthetician, Co-founder of Kowua, leads Kowua Academy — our training program that has certified aestheticians across multiple countries. Her clinical experience is what guarantees that every technique we teach and every tool we design is validated by real treatment-room practice.

Andres founded Kowua more than ten years ago on one conviction: the brand should not be a product store but a platform for knowledge transfer between ancestral craft and contemporary professional aesthetics. Diana joined the project bringing that technical expertise to make the vision a reality. That decade of operation is what has allowed us to refine the product, expand the academy, and build real relationships with professional clients across three continents.

What we make

Kowua HC is a premium supplier of holistic professional aesthetic tools. We design, manufacture, and export:

  • Champion Metálico® — our proprietary metal contouring tool, designed in-house and trademarked by Kowua. One of the brand’s signature innovations.
  • Amethyst Serenity Set — our iconic wood therapy line finished in amethyst tones, one of the brand’s most recognizable pieces.
  • Professional-grade massage and essential oils.
  • Specialized equipment, including our carboxytherapy unit.
  • Kowua Academy — online courses and in-person Master Classes in Paris, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, Houston, and Colombia.

Who we serve

We work with licensed aestheticians, massage therapists, spa owners, post-operative care specialists, and wellness centers across the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Spain and most of Europe, the United Arab Emirates and other Gulf markets. Today Kowua reaches nearly any corner of the world where a beauty professional works. Our tools live in the hands of professionals who understand one truth: the human body deserves instruments made by humans — materials that breathe, with natural weight and temperature, with the honesty of living wood.

Why it matters

In a market flooded with plastic copies and industrially mass-produced tools, Kowua represents the opposite bet: real wood, hand-crafted, with traceable origin, registered brand, educational backbone, and an explicit commitment not to break what took us so long to protect. Every purchase sustains a community of artisans in Santander and supports the responsible stewardship of the forests of Cogua, Cundinamarca.

“We don’t manufacture tools. We grow rituals your body remembers.”

Our commitments

  • Traceable raw material — every wood batch has documented origin.
  • Artisanal manufacturing — 100% of carving and assembly happens in Colombia.
  • Cruelty-free — no Kowua product is tested on animals.
  • Certified professional training — our academy offers online courses and in-person Master Classes across three continents, led by expert estheticians to take every professional to the next level.
  • Conscious packaging — transitioning to 100% recyclable or reusable by 2030.
